The clinic must not begin with suspicion: Defending the affirmative approach

Abstract

This letter to the editor defends the affirmative approach in the care of transgender and gender-diverse individuals. Based on the recent debate triggered by the Cass Review in the UK, the authors reflect from their clinical practice on the risks of replacing recognition with suspicion, and highlight the ethical and bioethical importance of caring with respect, empathy, and self-determination.
