Abstract

For better or for worse, the security design in force during the second half of the 20th century in Latin America was framed in the competition for global hegemony that we know under the name of "Cold War." But, when did the Cold War end in Latin America? Was it a homogeneous process? What are the needs that the regional reality demands today in terms of security and defense? This work is fundamentally oriented by the last of the questions enunciated; but this requires responding to the first two, since they indicate the immediately previous historical level in which we were situated as a region.
