Abstract

The relationship between State and Church during the independence process was complex. In some cases involved doctrinal problems, in others political arguments and sometimes economical issues. In general the literature about these conflicts has been focused in those matters, separating one from another and focusing in the task of discriminate both the loyalties involved (a patriot or monarchist clericals) or the differences between secular and regular clergy. This study attempts to observe those relationships analyzing as a whole the different fields and views that were part of the construction of a new order and the searching for an equilibrium between religious and civil authorities.
